Congress has enacted legislation providing a tax credit of up to $8,000 for first-time home buyers.
The tax credit is for first-time home buyers only.
The tax credit does not have to be repaid.
The tax credit is equal to 10 percent of the home’s purchase price up to a maximum of $8,000.
The credit is available for homes purchased on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009.
Single taxpayers with incomes up to $75,000 and married couples with incomes up to $150,000 qualify for the full tax credit.

The tax credit is good — but only if you haven’t bought a home. So what about those of us, (like me) – that have? Try this:

I was browsing around, trying to find a way to cut my costs and realized that the government was giving tax credits for energy efficiency work. Additionally, the city of Austin and Austin Energy have a rebate program for the new mandate requiring all houss to be “Green” prior to selling them. I found a list of the contractors on Austin Energy’s homepage –lower left hand corner –

and called all the vendors. I spoke in detail with about 5 of them (the rest never even answered the phone) and eventually spoke with green collar operations -http://www.greencollaroperations.com/
and had them do an energy audit and perform some insulation on my house. So basically I made money by having them come out because of the tax credit, the rebate the city gave me and the fact that my bills are already down – and it has gotten warmer over the last 2 months. Just my 2Cents
